Michael Krumenacker
Owner/Project Manager/Lead Carpenter

Michael holds an MFA in Sculpture from Maryland Institute, College of Art. Prior to graduate school, he had worked as an assistant to the artist Ellsworth Kelly, and after earning his MFA he moved to NYC and trained as a fine carpenter under East Village artist Gary Jacobson. Michael learned how to approach high-end restoration and remodeling projects with an artist’s attention to detail, and clients included Peter Lewis (CEO, Progressive Insurance), actress Jodie Foster, the Eisner family (Disney), artist Sean Landers, Rachel Feinstein and Jon Currin, and writers Daphne Beal and Sean Wilsey. A stint as artist in residence at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa brought Michael to Texas in 2007; he moved to Austin shortly after and founded Blue Sky Design in 2009.

Matthew Hoopengardner
Owner/Estimator/Lead Carpenter

Matthew studied business at the University of Texas San Antonio. He moved to Austin with his band the Golden Boys in 2003. In between song writing, recording and extensively touring the U.S. and Europe, Matthew made ends meet by working for several local boutique furniture stores. These jobs fueled an interest in design and furniture construction, and he joined Blue Sky Design as a carpenter in 2010. In 2011, Matthew became co-owner of the company.

Blue Sky’s mission is to provide affordable and environmentally conscious construction and carpentry work.
